The Ball State Llewellyn Aquatic center hosts a 25 yard pool “in the round” with spectator seating on three sides and ample deck space for swimmers. With a separate diving well used for warm up and warm downs between events, it was a great meet facility for the Masters who attended.
This annual meet was organized jointly by the Cardinal Masters swim team and the Ball State University Men’s and Women’s swimming and diving teams to raise funds for the Ball State University swim team expenses. Proceeds defray expenses not paid by the university, such as travel expenses. BSU Men’s coach Bob Thomas, BSU Women’s coach Laura Caudill and Cardinal Masters Coach, Steve Jones were the organizers. Members of the Ball State men’s and women’s swim teams ran the meet as timers and placed the timing pads in and out of the water. Laura Caudill checked in all the swimmers while Bob Thomas hosted the microphone announcements.
It is one of the first Masters events of the New Year in Indiana and it brought out 58 Masters participants from eleven team groups, all but one from Indiana. This meet was a great way to start off the season and get reference times in preparation for the short course yards GRIN state meet in March.
High point team score went to the local Cardinal Masters with 925 points, while second place team score went to the Terre Haute Torpedos with 402 points, and third place went to Indy Swim Fit with 395 points. All three received a trophy for their team. The remaining teams scored as follows: Fourth place to NASTI (336 pts.), fifth place to Westview Healthplex of Indianapolis (308 pts.), Unattached (215 pts.), BSU Masters (137 pts.), Earlham (134 pts.), GRIN (88 pts.), Northwest Aquatic Club (64 pts.), Sugar Creek Masters (51 pts.), and Illinois Masters (51 pts.).
