Women take down men in Battle of the Sexes

Trouble apparently has been brewing at YMCA Indy SwimFit.

The team’s women won the first annual “Battle of the Sexes” dual meet at the IU Natatorium.

After the first three events only 23 points separated the sexes. It appeared the women, who were very confident at the outset would not prevail. However, the Women’s Team turned a showdown into a beat down. Megan Sobecki, Women’s Team captain, organization, and team depth led to the Men’s Team’s demise. Continue reading

The Noblesville Adult Swim Team will host the USMS 10K National Championship on July 17, 2010 at beautiful Morse Reservoir in Noblesville. Come and swim two laps around the idle zone off South Harbour beach. Look for more information soon.

Welklin will be missed

My dad, Bob Welklin, 84, passed away this fall after several months battling pancreatic cancer. He was a respected member of the NASTI swim team and received Grin’s Life Member Emeritus award in 2006. He loved the NASTI team and looked forward to the Indiana USMS state meet each year from which he returned most times with a cache of gold hardware. His friends and family in Fort Wayne, Indiana were very familiar with our annual event as his stories of competing and socializing were told and retold with righteous pride.

Valpo Masters debut new meet in northwest Indiana

A good time (no pun intended) was had by all who attended the first annual Valparaiso Masters Invitational on Dec. 5.  It was a great opportunity for all who attended to get an idea of how their training is progressing and how much more work is needed before the short course state championships.  Continue reading
