A good time (no pun intended) was had by all who attended the first annual Valparaiso Masters Invitational on Dec. 5.  It was a great opportunity for all who attended to get an idea of how their training is progressing and how much more work is needed before the short course state championships.

There were several new masters’ swimmers in attendance, some who had never competed in swimming and some who hadn’t competed in 30-plus years.  All showed great form in their starts and turns. That’s thanks to the Valparaiso coach, P.J. Ciotola, who held a starts/turns clinic every Friday in November for all area masters, regardless of team. After the meet, many of the Valparaiso masters and the Duneland Masters met at a local pub,  Pikk’s Tavern, for ½ pound sirloin burgers – a well-earned treat! After the meet, many of the Valparaiso masters and the Duneland Masters met at a local pub,  Pikk’s Tavern, for ½ pound sirloin burgers – a well-earned treat!
