IU dominates home meet

IU Masters won its home meet Feb. 13, knocking out YMCA Indy SwimFit 808 to 520.

The Terre Haute Torpedoes, Noblesville Adult Swim Team  and St. Louis Area Masters also scored in triple digits.

The meet saw some amazing races, including IU swimmer Kosuke Kojima’s 51.61 win in the 100-yard IM over Indy SwimFit Ben Christoffel’s 52.95.

Christoffel also hit a 21.16 in the 50 free, one of three swimmers to break 22 seconds. The 34-year old beat 23-year-old Masataka Ishimatsu’s 21.24 and 24-year-old Kyle Ruth’s 21.47. Both swim for IU Masters.

DOC swimmers

About 100 swimmers participated.

A number of state records were set. Peter Boerner (83), from the IU DOC club swam in his very first Masters swim meet and set a new state record in the 50 yard breaststroke. Other records were set by Indy SwimFit swimmers Michelle Harter (40), Ben Christoffel (34), and Chris Clarke (41), and IU DOC swimmers, Jutta Schickore (45) and Peter Finn (55).
