Purdue to host state meet

We’re still working out the details, but the GRIN State Meet tentatively has been scheduled for March 22-23, 2014 at Purdue University.

We also have meets scheduled Jan. 12 at Ball State and Feb. 15 at Indiana University. The board is helping the local clubs fund social events after each of these meets. More details to come. 

I’ll post entry info as it becomes available. 

NASTIs sponsor GRIN Fitness Series

The Noblesville Adult Swim Team will sponsor  the 13th annual GRIN Fitness Series and Postal Swim, which consists of three separate hour or half hour swims.

The events are Dec. 8, Jan. 19 and Feb. 23 at the Noblesville High School pool.

The NASTIs will provide clip boards, counter sheets and pencils, as well as sports drinks and light snacks. For your swim to be official, you must provide a counter.

Heats will leave promptly at 8 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

The swim also will be offered as a postal event. That means you can swim your hour or half hour at your local pool and mail in the results.

Looking for a Thanksgiving Day workout? Look no further

Several Central Indiana clubs will host Thanksgiving Day workouts. This is a chance for local swimmers and out-of-town visitors to swim off some of those Thanksgiving calories. USMS members should bring their USMS cards. Non members can sign waivers at the workouts.

—Lawrence Masters will host a workout from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lawrence North, 7802 Hague Road,Door No. 8, on the Far Northeastside of Indianapolis.

Cost: $5 for non members. Donations of a canned food or dry goods will be accepted. Check in with coach Kris Houchens.

—Zionsville Aquatic Masters will host a workout from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Zionsville High School, 1000 Mulberry Street, Zionsville, IN Door #31 by the tennis courts.

Cost: Free. Donations of a canned foor or dry goods will be accepted. Check in with coach Lisa Brown.

—Indy Aquatic Masters will host a workout from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at North Central High School, 1801 E. 86th St., Door No. 24, on the Far Northside of Indianapolis. Check in with coach Dean Hawks.

Cost: Free. Donations of a canned foor or dry goods will be accepted.

—Healthplex will host workouts from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Thanksgiving Day and Friday, and from 7:30-8:45 a.m. Saturday. The pool is at 3660 Guion Road, near Downtown. Check in with Eileen Davis.

Cost: $6.

—NASTI will host a workout at 8:50 a.m. at Noblesville High School, at Cumberland Road and Ind. 32. Check in with Randy Crutchfield or Chris Sikich.

Get Ready for the 2014 1-Hour Postal Swim!

logo_1308Indy Aquatic Masters is hosting the National USMS 2014 1-Hour Postal swim.

The event must be swum during January. Individual swimmers can register their swims from Jan. 1 to Feb. 10, and relays can register from Feb. 13-20.

Fort Wayne swimmers organize club

The Fort Wayne YMCA Sharks have registered as a new club with United States Masters Swimming.

The team hopes to have 100 swimmers registered by the end of 2014, and has entered into a partnership with area YMCAs.

Area swimmer Susan Meyers and Mel Goldstein, the Indy Aquatic Masters founder and USMS Club Development and Coaches Services Coordinator, helped register the club.

The program will launch in January.

Indy Aquatic Masters offers revolutionary stroke clinic

Indy Aquatic Masters is offering a great opportunity for some stroke development, including both efficiency and power.

The TKO Performance system measures a swimmer’s speed, maximum velocity, distance per stroke and overall efficiency.

The team will offer a clinic Nov. 23 and 24 at Fishers High School. There are several time slots available each day. The clinic should last about an hour.

The cost is $20 for IAM members and $55 for non members. (There’s also an offer for a free December IAM membership with the purchase of a 6-month team membership.)

The session is appropriate for all ability levels.

The fee is $51. Do to an oversight, those who have registered through Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, were incorrectly charged $53. GRIN will send a check to reimburse the $2 to anyone impacted.
