The IU Masters Invitational this past weekend was a success, despite the weather conditions the day before. Meg Carlson (25-29) broke her old 100 breast record, and Sergeii Fresenko, 55, from the Ukraine was there along with a contingent of IU swimmers. Fresenko won a gold medal in the 200 Fly and a silver in the 400 IM at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. His son, Sergiy Jr. also competed at the Olympics in 2000 and 2004, and is a former student at the Indiana University where he was named Big Ten swimmer of the week twice and once an NCAA swimmer of the week in 2005-2006 collegiate season.
Participants were especially pleased to see Marge Counsilman (former coach Doc Counsilman’s widow) visit, accompanied by Dave Tanner!
