Volunteers Needed for the USMS 15K National Championships

logo_2015 USMS 15K OW Championship_0On June 20th, the USMS 15K Open Water National Championships will be held in Noblesville. Sponsored by the NASTI’s, this event is also a fundraiser for the Forest Park Aquatic Center.

Some of the best local and national open water swimmers will participate in this event. Because of the distance, each swimmer will need a kayaker as support. The kayakers will help guide them, and carry the water and nutrition they will need to complete the 9.3 mile course. We are in great need of kayaks & paddlers for this event.  The course is 3 laps – each lap is 3.1 miles.  Paddlers can kayak one, two, or all three laps.

GRIN Swimmers Excel at USMS Nationals!

Congratulations to the 9 Indiana swimmers who competed at the 2015 U.S. Masters Swimming Spring National Championships. Contested at the Northside Aquatic Complex in San Antonio, Texas, over 1,800 swimmers descended on San Antonio from April 23 – 26, 2015, to compete in this SCY championship event. Competitors ranged in age from 18 to 98 and included beginning swimmers to Olympians – and everyone in between.

With storms threatening each day, the atmosphere was indeed electric. In the pool, 52 new USMS individual records and 8 relay records were set over the 4 days of competition. Nine swimmers represented Indiana at the National Championships. Competing for Indy Aquatic Masters were Meg Carlson, Nadine Day, Jeremy Forst, Cheryl Gettelfinger, Linda Marvin, Stephen Rouch, and Shelby Stultz. Joe Dauginas represented the Valpo Masters, while Patty Winck, from Newburgh, swam for Unified Club Indiana – 16. The weekend included 7 individual National Championships between Meg Carlson (50 Breast, 100 Breast, 200 Breast) and Nadine Day (1650 Free, 200 Breast, 100 Fly, and 400 IM) and numerous Top 20 finishes. In fact, 38 of the 44 individual races by Indiana swimmers and all 4 relays resulted in Top 20 age group finishes. Check out the full results. Congratulations to all who competed and welcome home. We can’t wait to see what you’ll do next!
