GRIN Seeks New Board Members

As 2022 is an election year for the USMS LMSC GRIN Officers, GRIN is currently seeking people to express their interest in being on the GRIN board. Board members serve a 2-year term. Members must be available to attend Board meetings held electronically (Zoom) or locally in Indianapolis 3 – 4 times a year and attend the USMS National Convention held each September. Positions up for election are:

  • Chair
  • Co-Chair
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

If you are interested, please contact Jerrilynn Bayless, current GRIN Chair, at Partingco@gmail.com or call Jerrilynn at 812-870-1503. Elections will be held at the upcoming State Meet in April. FINAL DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS IS FEBRUARY 28, 2022.

GRIN Honors

At the U.S. Masters Swimming annual meeting in late September, GRIN was honored by the recognition of the achievements of two of our members.

Lisa Brown, Zionsville Aquatic Masters Coach and Aquatics Director for Zionsville Community Schools was elevated to Coach Level 4.  This level is rewarded upon completion of high levels of leadership contributions, education, achievement and growth and retention.

Michelle Harter, Indy Aquatic Masters Executive Director, received the June Krauser Communications Award which is presented annually to someone whose work in communications has contributed to the growth, improvement, or success of U.S. Masters Swimming locally, regionally or nationally.

2022 State Championship Bid Application

Greater Indiana Masters Swimming is soliciting bids for the 2022 GRIN State Championship Meet. For the 2022 bid year, the bid will be open to all three areas of the state.  For future years, the rotation will be posted at grinswim.org. Participants pay entry fees for the GRIN State Meet and this revenue is passed to the meet hosts making it a rewarding experience for the host team. Meet hosts are encouraged to set a reasonable fee because the meet host will be guaranteed at least $4,000 (the stipend approved by the board) to offset expenses. Even if your club does not have the desire or facility to host the Championship meet, we encourage you to reach out to local age group and high school swim programs, colleges, and YMCAs to let them know of this opportunity. After all, wouldn’t you prefer the Championship meet in your own back yard than somewhere else?

GRIN Election Results

The GRIN Election Meeting was held on Monday, March 16. Your newly elected Executive Board members are Jerrilyn Bayless, Chair; Stephen Rouch, Vice Chair; Molly Meyer, Secretary; and Sue Pollard, Treasurer. Learn more about your new Board members. The new Board members will officially assume their duties at the Annual Meeting (held via conference call) on Saturday, April 4, 2020, at 12:00pm (EST).

We would like to encourage all GRIN programs to make sure they have selected a Club Representative to represent their Club’s interests at the Board meetings of Greater Indiana Masters Swimming (GRIN). Pursuant to our current By-Laws, any program that has 4 or more members is entitled to select one Club Representative to represent their Club’s interests at the Board meetings of Greater Indiana Masters Swimming (GRIN) and vote in the Election Meeting. The Club Representative can be any coach or swimmer that is a USMS member in good standing and is affiliated with GRIN. Please fill out the Club Representative Forms indicating either new or changed Reps and email to the GRIN Secretary.

Cancelling the 2020 GRIN State Championship

I’m sure you are all aware of the evolving situation regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Indiana University is actively monitoring this situation and making decisions to best protect the health and safety of the IU community in consultation and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and state and local health officials. As such, leadership from both GRIN and the IU Natatorium have decided that it is the best interest of public health and safety to cancel the 2020 GRIN State Championship. Everyone who has signed up for the meet will automatically receive a full refund through Club Assistant. There is no need to take action. We thank you for understanding and look forward to seeing you all next year!
